Talk about "community-driven", Lorin Thwaits and the other coordinators of the Desert Code Camp are wanting your input on when 'camp should be held this next year.

You can choose between dates in September and October.

This approach worked out pretty well actually. We just had camp, and ended up with 400 people coming out on Saturday, which is 30-50% more attendance than at either of our previous camps. And about 30% of folks had voted for which weekend worked for them. For other code camp organizers: I'd recommend doing this if your venue has some flexibility in scheduling.
